MCHE 311 – Mechanics of Materials (Chapters 1–3) This course covers the foundational chapters of Mechanics of Materials, essential for BAU engineering student's core curriculum: Chapter 1 – Concept of Stress Review of statics and equations of equilibrium, method of sections and internal loading (normal force, shear force, bending moment), normal stress, shear stress (single & double shear), bearing stress, and allowable stress / factor of safety — all reinforced with 11 fully solved examples covering beams, cranes, pipes, pins, and bolted/wood joints. Chapter 2 – Concept of Strain Deformation, normal strain, shear strain, and the stress-strain relationship (Hooke's Law) — explained through 3 detailed worked examples involving lever arms, deformed plates, and diagonal strain analysis.
